Overview

This website focuses on the integration of science and art. It is based on data from international and renowned scientific journals and conferences featuring artistic technology. By analyzing papers published over the past five to six years (at present), along with researchers' academic backgrounds and affiliations, we assign scores to each institution. The resulting ranking highlights academic contributions in the intersection of science and art.

Background and Goals: As science and art continue to converge, research at their intersection is becoming a driving force for innovation and social progress. This project seeks to fairly and transparently evaluate the global impact of universities in the fields of science and art, offering valuable insights for academia and education.

Key Considerations:

  • Diversity: Incorporates multi-disciplinary and cross-regional research to showcase universities' diverse contributions.
  • Professionalism: Focuses on high-impact conferences and journals, emphasizing cutting-edge achievements in science and art.
  • Transparency: Relies on public data and scoring models to ensure fairness and objectivity in rankings.

Criteria for Selecting Conferences and Journals

  • Reputation: Widely recognized on platforms like Google Scholar, with high-impact Tracks (including Art Tracks).
  • Art Tracks: Dedicated Art Tracks are required to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of science and art.
  • Thematic Relevance: Must align with the core theme of science-art integration.
  • Global and Multi-Disciplinary: Covers various disciplines and regions to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

Ranking Methodology

  • Scope of Inclusion: We include only records affiliated with universities, academic departments, or notable research institutes. If you notice any errors or omissions, please feel free to contact us for corrections. We also warmly welcome more institutions to participate in our rankings.
  • Author Score Calculation: Each paper is assigned a score of 100. The first author receives 50% of the total score, while the remaining 50% is distributed among the other co-authors. If a paper has a sole author, they receive the full score.
  • Conference Selection Criteria: We include a diverse range of conferences and journals that strongly reflect the theme of integrating science and art. This list is continuously expanding as we identify more relevant venues in this interdisciplinary space.
  • Institutional Affiliation Standardization: We strive to use the formal and standardized names of universities and institutions in our rankings. If you notice any inconsistencies or errors, we welcome your feedback and corrections.
  • Time Window: Our ranking includes papers published since 2019.

Paper Type Inclusion

Our primary focus is on peer-reviewed full papers. However, we also include a small number of creative works, such as artistic projects, installations, and art posters, especially when they are part of formal conference proceedings.

7-topics

We introduce seven topics to generally reflect the research fields of the papers collected on our websites. The LLM generates them due to the tracks of several famous conferences during the last decade. These topics are:

  • Graphics: This domain concerns the algorithmic generation, representation, and manipulation of visual content, including two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphics. Central areas of study encompass geometric modeling, image synthesis, rendering pipelines, physical simulation, and computer animation. These technologies serve as foundational tools for visual communication, digital media arts, and simulation-based artistic environments.
  • Generative Art: Generative Art investigates the creation of artworks through automated or semi-automated systems, wherein the artist defines a set of rules, algorithms, or constraints, and the computational system produces outputs within these defined parameters. This field emphasizes emergent aesthetics, procedural authorship, and the epistemological shift from direct manual control to system-based creativity.
  • Interactive Art: This domain explores the design and analysis of artworks that require active user participation or environmental responsiveness. Interactive art integrates sensing technologies, responsive media systems, and performative frameworks to enable real-time interaction between the audience and the artifact. It foregrounds embodied cognition, agency in artistic experience, and human-machine co-creation.
  • Performative Hardware: Performative Hardware focuses on the artistic integration of physical computing systems—including sensors, microcontrollers, robotics, and wearable devices—into expressive and often corporeal forms of media art. This area bridges computation with material embodiment, enabling dynamic installations, kinetic sculptures, and performative interfaces that respond to human gesture, proximity, and physiological states.
  • AI Art: AI Art encompasses artistic practices that utilize machine learning, neural networks, and data-driven generative systems to produce creative artifacts. It differs from rule-based systems in that the models learn statistical patterns from training data, enabling novel, often unpredictable outputs. This domain critically engages with issues of authorship, creativity, autonomy, and the aesthetic implications of artificial intelligence in cultural production.
  • Immersive Media: Immersive Media investigates the use of extended reality technologies—such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR)—to construct multisensory, spatially coherent artistic environments. These systems allow audiences to enter, navigate, and interact with synthetic spaces, challenging conventional narrative forms and redefining the viewer's perceptual and cognitive engagement with digital content.
  • Data Aesthetics: Data Aesthetics examines the transformation of structured or unstructured data into visual, auditory, or spatial representations that are both analytically informative and artistically expressive. This field operates at the intersection of information design, computational analysis, and creative practice, aiming to reveal patterns, provoke reflection, and construct meaningful narratives from quantitative or relational data.

Future Directions

  • Expanding Coverage of Influential Conferences and Papers: We aim to incorporate more internationally influential conferences and scholarly works to enrich the scope and depth of our dataset.
  • Refining Research Topic Classification: We plan to enhance the accuracy of topic classification for scholars, researchers, and artists, ensuring a more precise reflection of their academic and creative domains.
  • Introducing More Ranking Factors and Transparent Scoring Methods: We will explore the integration of additional ranking indicators and a more transparent scoring mechanism to improve the interpretability and credibility of our platform.
